Laser Periodontal Therapy

We are committed to providing a superior level of dental care to you, your family, and your friends. This commitment requires staying current on all the latest science, research and technology available.

Advances in dental technology and the latest science and research on treating gum disease (aka periodontal disease) have improved our ability to treat and control your periodontal disease.

This advancement in treating periodontal disease is called Laser Periodontal Therapy (LPT). Diode Lasers are now being used during the treatment and prevention of periodontal disease. The laser emits a concentrated light energy, which destroys bacteria and removes unhealthy diseased tissue. The reduction in bacteria will aid in creating and maintaining healthy tissue and bone around your teeth.

Oral bacteria and your individual immune response are responsible for the periodontal disease process. These bacteria destroy the tissue and bone around your teeth. Additionally, we now know that periodontal disease is linked to the following diseases: heart disease, diabetes, pulmonary disease, low birth weight and premature delivery, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, pancreatic cancer, obesity, stillbirth and hypertension.

Although Lasers are a great adjunct in the treatment of periodontal disease, long term success is dependent upon a number of factors:

  • Your oral care at home
  • Your state of health
  • Your compliance with recommended dental care

There is no cure for periodontal disease. It can reoccur. After your Laser Periodontal Therapy is completed, the dental laser can assist in maintaining the health that we gain during treatment by continuing to use it whenever necessary at your maintenance appointments. Untreated and controlled periodontal disease will continue to advance and may require periodontal surgery.
