SureSmile vs. Invisalign®: Is There a Clear Winner?

If you were to search for “clear aligners,” you’d see several brand names pop up.

There are so many options to choose from; it can be overwhelming to decide which one to use.

Two of the top brands are SureSmile® and Invisalign®.

We’ll break down some of the key differences and similarities between them in this blog.

Let’s jump in.

What’s the difference between SureSmile and Invisalign®?

The two companies’ treatment systems offer similar benefits.

Both aligners are virtually invisible, removable, and correct dental issues such as:

  • Crossbites
  • Underbites
  • Gapped teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowding

And they both allow you to straighten your smile discreetly.

But:

One of the main things that set them apart is how long the brands have been around.

The company that produces Invisalign® Opens in a new tab to Aligntech’s website(Align Technology) was founded in 1997, making it the original clear aligner brand.

Thanks to pioneering research, they’ve transformed 11 million smiles and counting!

Invisalign® is the most established brand on the market.

Opens in a new tab to SureSmile’s websiteSureSmile was founded in 1998 and is owned by OraMatrix.

Their company has helped hundreds of thousands of patients.

And in the last 23 years, they’ve become incredibly popular too.

They’re often considered an alternative to Invisalign®.

However:

Another significant difference between the two is that Invisalign® uses a specially patented material to create their aligners.

What is Invisalign® made of?

After testing nearly 300 different materials, Align Technology developed Opens in a new tab to Invisalign’s websiteSmartTrack® material.

SmartTrack makes the aligners more comfortable to wear than any other company’s aligners.

It’s a soft multilayer material that allows for a more efficient treatment process and predictable results.

What is SureSmile made of?

SureSmile uses the material that Invisalign® was made of many years ago before they’d patented SmartTrack.

The SureSmile aligners are slightly thinner than Invisalign®.

That means they could be more susceptible to damage, like cracking or warping.

SureSmile aligners have more torque control because of their straight-line cut. Because of this design, they ultimately use fewer attachments than Invisalign®.

Ultimately, the treatment time with either aligner depends on your unique case.

How long do you have to wear your aligners?

Both brands recommend you wear the aligners for at least 22 hours a day to see the best results.

And whenever you want to eat or drink anything, you can remove the aligners.

But because of Invisalign’s SmartTrack material, their aligners are much easier to take on and off than SureSmile aligners. You can gently slide your Invisalign® out of your mouth.

Remember to always clean your teeth before putting your aligners back in, though.

If you ever have any concerns about your aligners, you should contact your dentist.

So, which aligner brand is the winner?

In the end, the choice is up to you.
